For a list of specific categories of proposals requiring IRB approval, see the Research Secretary. The BYU IRB proposal format is found on the ORCA web site. Be sure to access the web site for current guidelines.

The College of Nursing Research & Scholarship Council may determine IRB approval is not required for a proposal, based on the following:

1. The population is not vulnerable.
2. An intra-departmental evaluation.
3. The issue is not sensitive.

When the proposal has been approved by the Research and Scholarship Council, and is ready for submission to the University IRB do the following:

1. Submit a copy of the proposal to the Research Secretary.

2. The Research Secretary will deliver the proposal to the University IRB Office.

3. The IRB will notify the researcher if the proposal was approved or if changes are requested by a specific date. If there are changes requested, the researcher will be responsible for making these changes and resubmitting requested information directly to the University IRB.

Applications and information on regulations are obtained on the ORCA web site.
