Masks: Masks are required for all activities. You should have several masks that you can regularly launder and reuse. Please see the university’s COVID-19 page on mask policies (

Goggles: Bring your goggles with you for all NLC labs/simulation and to clinical. You can wear regular eyeglasses instead of goggles. More information on what type of goggles to purchase can be found here:

NLC Uniform: To minimize COVID-19 transmission and enhance the learning experience during NLC labs and simulations, you need to wear the NLC uniform. The purpose of the NLC uniform is two-fold:

  1. Professionalism – To have a professional look and enhance the learning experience during lab and simulations students have been wearing lab coats. While the lab coat may not have been ideal, we can no longer continue to offer lab coats due to COVID-19. Students should look and feel like an RN when they are in lab or simulation to make the experience as realistic as possible. There is research to support the use of uniforms in labs and simulation as the uniform enhances the learning experience. In fact, requiring a uniform during lab and simulation is a common practice in nursing schools across the country and during simulation exercises that take place after employment.
  2. Decrease COVID Risk – We need to assure our clinical partners that we are doing EVERYTHING in our power to decrease the transmission of COVID-19 to their facilities and patients. The extra set of scrubs is just one way that we can try to reduce the spread among students in a crowded university setting. Wearing masks, health screenings, frequent sanitizing of hands are also measures we are taking to reduce the spread of COVID-19. During lab and simulation, you may not be able to maintain a 6 foot distance between yourself and other students. A separate uniform that can be easily changed and laundered is an extra precaution to keep you, other students, and instructors safe.

You need to wear the NLC uniform for all labs and simulations. You do NOT need to wear the NLC uniform to attend the walk-in lab, to use a study room, or to check out items from the circulation desk. The NLC uniform includes:

  • White scrub top without the BYU College of Nursing emblem embroidered on the sleeve
  • Ceil blue scrub pants
  • Closed-toed shoes

Clinical Uniform: There are no changes to the clinical uniform.
