Biography
I was born in Utah. I grew up with two younger sisters and a brother in California (both Northern and Southern) and graduated from High School in Connecticut. I returned to Utah to study Nursing at BYU where I met and married my husband Trent. After working some time as an RN on medical-surgical units, I completed a Master of Science degree at the University of Utah in the Adult Nurse Practitioner program. I worked for many years providing primary care for women as a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (APRN-BC). I began teaching at Brigham Young University full-time in 2005. I completed a PhD in nursing at the University of Utah in 2014. My husband and I have four children and one granddaughter.
Research Interests
My research focus involves clinical and family implications of the practice of Precision Medicine. Precision medicine is healthcare designed to optimize efficiency or therapeutic benefit to groups of patients by using genetic or molecular profiling. Clinical and family implications include the communication and utilization of personalized health information, based on genetic predisposition, among patients and their family members, friends and primary care providers.Teaching Interests
I am excited to help prepare the next generation of nurses to care for patients with their minds, hands, and hearts. I teach in the second and third semesters; I also teach genetics to students in the undergraduate RN and graduate nurse practitioner program.Education
