Research Interests
Research Focus Translational research to advance nurse competency.Program of Research
This research program is grounded in translational research to advance nurse competency in critical and crisis care contexts. The program is organized into three interrelated branches supporting this main research focus.
The first focuses on competency assessment and measurement, including the development and psychometric testing of instruments to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and clinical decision-making in high-acuity settings.
The second branch examines simulation-based and experiential learning strategies to strengthen clinical competence, leadership, and preparedness for disaster and mass casualty response, with particular attention to ethical decision-making under crisis conditions.
The third branch addresses moral and relational dimensions of competency in critical care practice, including navigating ethical dilemmas in complex patient care.
Each branch provides a key aspect of the author’s emerging theory of translational research as a process for advancing nursing competency, especially in high-stakes clinical environments.
Teaching Interests
Teaching interests center on preparing nursing students and practicing nurses for competent, ethical, and adaptive practice in high-acuity and crisis care environments. Pedagogy integrates critical care physiology, clinical judgment, and translational use of evidence to support decision-making under conditions of uncertainty, instability, and moral complexity.Education
