Biography
Dr. Christine Platt, PhD, DNP, FNP-C earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota (2004) and worked as an intensive care nurse for 10 years. She then completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Brigham Young University (2014) and earned her doctoral degrees (PhD and DNP) from the University of Arizona (2022). Dr. Platt completed a postdoctoral fellowship through the University of Utah, School of Medicine working on cancer research and families with chronic illnesses (2023). She loves caring for and guiding patients through all their needs and has clinically practiced as a nurse practitioner at Parkinson Dermatology and Associates since 2014. As part of giving back to her community and profession, she enjoys teaches the next generation of nurses and nurse practitioners at BYU. Her and her husband have 3 sons and 3 daughters together.
Research Interests
Dr. Platt is a dual doctorally prepared (DNP/PhD) faculty member who completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Utah, School of Medicine’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Her research reflects her commitment to improving the health of children at high risk for poor health outcomes. With a focus on health disparities, particularly for children in the US foster care systems, her work seeks to identify facilitators and barriers to quality caregiving particularly on the discharge transition from hospital to home for children with complex health need.Dr. Platt's research methods include theory development, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods analysis in order to better understand how families raising children with special needs adapt and thrive. She takes an interdisciplinary approach, working with colleagues in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, social work, psychology, and education to gain a wholistic view of the child. Dr. Platt's most recent work focuses on the sibling interactions and dynamics as they relate to the overall family hardiness and health.
Teaching Interests
Dr. Platt currently teaches health policy and finance. She also enjoys mentoring students in the different research methodologies.Education
