Research Interests

Dr. Platt is a dual doctorally prepared (DNP/PhD) faculty member who completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Utah, School of Medicine’s Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Her research reflects her commitment to improving the health of children at high risk for poor health outcomes. With a focus on health disparities, particularly for children in the US foster care systems, her work seeks to identify facilitators and barriers to quality caregiving particularly on the discharge transition from hospital to home for children with complex health need.

Dr. Platt's research methods include theory development, qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods analysis in order to better understand how families raising children with special needs adapt and thrive. She takes an interdisciplinary approach, working with colleagues in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, social work, psychology, and education to gain a wholistic view of the child. Dr. Platt's most recent work focuses on the sibling interactions and dynamics as they relate to the overall family hardiness and health.
